Calla AI was created by Dr. Mena Youssef, a practicing dentist in Fresno, California, where he runs a private practice called NoBSDDS. A proud USC School of Dentistry graduate, Dr. Youssef built Calla AI after firsthand experience trying to hire and train reliable front-desk staff in a fee-for-service environment. After months of searching, he turned to AI — designing an inbound receptionist that answers instantly, books patients, and logs every detail for his team.

The origin story

In the early startup days, staffing was tough. The first biller left after a transition into a new office, forcing Dr. Youssef to learn billing and insurance workflows himself. That experience revealed how much is on a front desk’s plate — calls, booking, FAQs, and constant context switching.
